Is the FreeStyle Libre 2 system compatible with FreeStyle Libre sensors, readers and the FreeStyle LibreLink app?*****

No, FreeStyle Libre 2 system sensors and the FreeStyle Libre 2 app§§ are NOT compatible with FreeStyle Libre system sensors, readers or the FreeStyle LibreLink app.***** It is critical that patients use the matching sensors and app to ensure product functionality. The FreeStyle Libre 2 app§§ is available through the App Store or Google Play.

Is the FreeStyle Libre 2 system more accurate than the FreeStyle Libre system?

The FreeStyle Libre 2 system is the next-generation continuous glucose monitoring system, with enhanced accuracy2,7 for making treatment decisions, even when glucose is low, falling or rapidly changing.

What is the default target glucose range for the FreeStyle Libre 2 system?

The target glucose range is pre-set to 3.9-10 mmol/L. Patients can adjust their target glucose range via the Settings menu.

How does my patient’s caregiver receive alarm notifications?

The new FreeStyle Libre 2 app§§ lets users easily share their glucose data with their caregivers using the LibreLinkUp app.‡‡

When caregivers use the LibreLinkUp app,‡‡ they will get glucose readings sent to their phone from their loved one using the FreeStyle Libre 2 app.§§ Every FreeStyle Libre 2 app§§ update is automatically*** sent to their smartphone, and up to 20 people can view results from a single FreeStyle Libre 2 app§§ account. With the LibreLinkUp app,‡‡ caregivers will receive alerts the minute their loved one’s glucose levels are too high or too low – so they can take action.

For more information and support, encourage patient to visit LibreLinkUp.com.

Can a user switch off the alarm sound and use vibration mode only?

Alarm settings** will follow your patient’s phone’s sound and vibration settings, so remind patients that these should be at a level where they can hear them to prevent missed alarms. If patients put their phone into vibration mode, they will receive a Low Glucose Alarm, High Glucose Alarm or Signal Loss Alarm by vibration.

What is the range for the alarms?**

The transmission range is 6 metres (20 feet), unobstructed.  If you are out of range, you may not receive glucose alarms.

Do not force close the FreeStyle Libre 2 app.§§

Can patients go through airport security or travel by air while wearing their FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor?

Patients may use their FreeStyle Libre 2 system while on an aircraft, so long as they follow any directions from the flight crew. Patients can continue to get sensor glucose readings after they put their phone in airplane mode.7

  • Some airport full-body scanners include x-ray or millimetre radio-wave, which the sensor cannot be exposed to. The effect of these scanners has not been evaluated and the exposure may damage the sensor or cause inaccurate results. To avoid removing the sensor, patients may request another type of screening. The sensor must be removed to go through a full-body scanner.
  • The sensor can be exposed to common electrostatic (ESD) and electromagnetic interference (EMF), including airport metal detectors.

Are there any situations in which the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor should be removed?

Patients should remove the sensor prior to MRI, CT scan or X-ray. Patients should apply a new sensor after the appointment.7

For any additional information, please refer to the FreeStyle Libre 2 user manual.

***** The FreeStyle LibreLink app and the FreeStyle Libre reader have similar but not identical features. A finger prick test using a blood glucose meter is required during times of rapidly changing glucose levels when interstitial fluid glucose levels may not accurately reflect blood glucose levels or if hypoglycemia or impending hypoglycemia is reported by the FreeStyle LibreLink app or when symptoms do not match the app readings. The FreeStyle Libre sensor communicates with the FreeStyle Libre reader that started it or the FreeStyle LibreLink app that started it. A sensor started by the FreeStyle Libre reader will also communicate with the FreeStyle LibreLink app. The FreeStyle LibreLink app is only compatible with certain mobile devices and operating systems. Please check the Compatibility Guide (PDF 69 KB) for more information about device compatibility before using the app. Use of FreeStyle LibreLink may require registration with LibreView.
